They were former basketball players, so ESPN decided to put them in the game to unlock. To get them, win 80% of your games in a season, and win the NBA finals. A screen will come up saying that "Football players can play basketball too"! Then go to the Free Agents list, and Moss and Mccardell will be there. Sign them to your team. They are both 99 overall rating.
Classic players:
To get classic players such as Magic Johnson, go to "Manage Roster" and trade a player with an All-star team. They can be used for franchise mode.
Getting good players:
In a quick game, pick your home team, then start a Virtual Slot Machine. You will get five random starters (unlocked and created team players can be used). Then, go to "Adjust Lineup" and substitute a player with a 90 or more rating for a player on your bench with a 60 rating. Do this as much as needed.
